The Ecolodge Bukit Lawang was established initially to support the activities of the Bohorok Environmental Education Centre (PPLH Bohorok) managed by YEL, the Sustainable Ecosystems Foundation (Yayasan Ekosistem Lestari). The main objective is to promote eco-tourism in the region. All profits generated by the Ecolodge Bukit Lawang are re-invested into the conservation of the Sumatran orangutan and its rainforest habitat, environmental education and community development programmes, under the management of YEL.
