Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) play an important role in accommodating the interests of society. They promote development issues such as poverty alleviation, human rights, the environment, anti-corruption and other issues. However, the crucial role of CSOs in encouraging civil society involvement is faced with organizational and managerial challenges. These challenges include problems such as career and human resource development, technical expertise, leadership and communication skills within the organization, as well as funding sources for organizational sustainability.
In response to the challenges faced by CSOs in Indonesia, the Platform Usaha Sosial (PLUS) and capacity builders in Indonesia, supported and initiated by the Ford Foundation, are working together to form Re.Search (Resource Hub for Strengthening Capacity on Financial Resilience). It is a learning ecosystem for civil society organizations in Indonesia to increase their knowledge, share their experiences, and collaborate in achieving innovation, financial resilience and sustainable impact.
The development of Re.Search as a learning ecosystem took place over a period of 5 years. During this time, the Re.Search implementation team developed two main activities, namely (1) capacity strengthening in the form of consultation, mentoring & training and (2) online platform access. Through these activities, Re.Search as a shared learning space is expected to be the answer to increasing organizational financial competence and innovation.
Consultation, Mentoring & Training Activities
Re.Search focuses on providing consultation, mentoring, and training activities to capacity-build Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). The aim of this program is to help CSOs address their organizational development needs. Before providing consultation, Re.Search conducts an assessment to understand the unique challenges of each organization. This ensures that the consultation sessions provided are tailored to the needs of each organization and can address specific challenges effectively.
Re.Search understands that every CSO has different problems and needs. Therefore, the assessment is unique to each organization. Re.Search has explored organizational needs in-depth to ensure that the consultation sessions provided are in line with the needs of each organization.
Re.Search’s intervention areas focus on areas that support organizational financial resilience, including organizational governance, strategic finance, resource mobilization, external communications, funding landscape, and exploring impact-based business opportunities for civil society organizations.
In addition to providing consultations, Re.Search also provides access to training activities. These training activities are led by experts experienced in managerial, financial management, leadership, and external communications issues. The training activities are carried out in regular discussion forums with other CSOs to strengthen the learning process.
Online Platforms
Re.Search is an online platform that aims to activate the learning ecosystem for CSOs in Indonesia. It provides independent learning access to knowledge products on financial resilience and innovation in various formats relevant to CSOs. These include learning modules, online courses with interactive videos, and educational information. CSOs can use these to enhance their knowledge and skills in topics such as establishing organizational governance, the creative economy for non-profit organizations, and the funding landscape.
In addition to these, the Re.Search team also curates collaboration opportunities such as requests for proposals, potential funding, webinars, training, and other activities. These opportunities are updated regularly, allowing CSOs to develop their organizational competencies and potential without being limited by area and time. The platform hopes to aid in the development of CSOs by providing a space for learning and collaboration that can help them reach their full potential.
CSO Engagement and Re.Search Objectives
Re.Search was established with the intention of fostering collaboration among CSOs. This is demonstrated by our goal, which is to not only provide facilities and support to CSOs for their growth but also to enable them to share their experiences and learnings with one another.
We understand that CSOs in Indonesia possess diverse knowledge products and assets. Therefore, in the spirit of collaboration, we offer opportunities for CSOs to contribute and participate in supporting the learning ecosystem. This contribution can take the form of preparing modules, and materials, or becoming a consultant and program development team member at Re.Search. Our hope is that the involvement of CSOs in Re.Search will be a positive signal for strengthening the CSO ecosystem and promoting collaboration in Indonesia.
