32 Socially Innovative Ideas to Watch for in Asia 2017

From affordable 3D printed prosthetics to a smartphone-based blood reader, check out 32 socially innovative ideas from DBS-NUS Social Venture Challenge Asia 2017.

The social enterprise ideas featured in this listing are part of the 2017 edition of the DBS-NUS Social Venture Challenge Asia – A regional competition for social enterprises, organised by DBS Foundation and NUS Enterprise. The challenge identifies and supports new social ventures that have the potential to generate positive, scalable and sustainable social impact.

This year’s competition saw 1082 entries from over 27 countries in both the Idea and Enterprise Categories. The 32 entries* below have been picked to proceed to the next round of judging, bringing them one step closer to the finals.

Edible bioplastics made from seaweed for replacement of plastic based sachet packaging, sanitary napkin and other flexible packaging, and edible cups and straws made from seaweed.

An online to offline trash management system

Biomass Briquette for Traditional Tofu Production
To nurture dairy farmer to produce biogas slurry briquettes for boiler consumption.
